Donna Elvira Wins Gold at the 2021 London Wine Competition

United Kingdom 12th April 2021 – At the 4th edition of the London Wine Competition which took place in London on March 17, 2021, Donna Elvira won 3 Gold medals, an ultimate seal of approval in the global wine industry. Donna Elvira scored highly in the judging criteria of quality, value and packaging to receive this honour.

The London Wine Competition intends to commend and award those wines that drinkers would enjoy drinking either from the wine list of a London restaurant or from a retail wine store. To achieve this the London Wine Competition looks at wines as a whole. Judges score wines for their quality, the expertise and capability they are made with. They also include two other essential factors – the value the wine offers and its packaging. It is this combination that gives wines peer, buyer and sommelier accreditation adding a feather in the cap for winners.

Sid Patel, CEO of event organizer Beverage Trade Network, says, “A wine is more than just a drink, it is a whole experience. That is why the London Wine Competition is designed for Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and experienced buyers to evaluate wines the way wine drinkers do. Yes, they analyse the quality of the wines thoroughly; they are then asked to judge and award marks based on the value and packaging of the wine.”

The judging panel at the competition is made up of Masters of Wine, Sommeliers and Master Sommeliers from some of London’s finest restaurants and buyers and traders with extensive commercial buying responsibility. Entrants to the London Wine Competition may be assured that their wines were judged for the whole product, not solely for the liquid inside.

Judges from both restaurants and retail stores indicate that customers like wine not only to taste great but also to look attractive and offer good value. They would like to offer their costumes wines that succeed in all three fronts. No longer does the ‘cellar’ label suffice as a mark of the winemaker’s personal quality.

Wines were judged on the basis of three primary criteria – quality, value and packaging – and then scored on a 100-point scale. Wines that scored 90+ points were awarded Gold medals, those that scored 76 to 89 points are awarded Silver medals, whilst Bronze medals were awarded to spirits that score between 65 & 75.

“In today’s competitive market, a good wine is not enough to win over the customer or see success in the market. Consumers expect it to look good and be great value for money. That’s why we are extremely proud that Donna Elvira wines scored so highly at the 2020 London Wine Competition,” said Tony Fink, owner of Donna Elvira Wines. “Winning an award is particularly important to us because it not only shows that we are making the types of wines that wine drinkers actually want to buy and enjoy, but also that we are making the types of wines that the trade wants to include in their lists.”

Donna Elvira Wines was established in the Campania region of Italy in 2010 by Tony Fink who with his family helped to create a vineyard in which ‘We lovingly planted our first vines and spent the next ten years pruning, tying, cleaning them and more importantly, learning, the same way you learn when you have your first child’.

Today these award-winning wines are now available to order from Donna Elvira Wines.
